Chennai Expressway becomes death trap; accident kills 4 in Kolar

A large number of accidents on the newly
constructed Chennai Expressway continued with yet another taking place on
Monday evening, where three people died, more than 20 people were injured and
one succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The incident occurred on Monday around
7.30pm near Kalkere village under Bangarpet limits, when a tempo traveller,
which was taking a U-turn on the expressway, was hit by a canter vehicle, which
in turn made the traveller crash into an ambulance.
Both the drivers of the tempo and the
ambulance, along with a person who was conducting a survey nearby, died on
spot, while the canter driver succumbed to his injuries at the Bangarpet
hospital.
The tempo consisted of more than 20 people,
including the driver, who were injured in the accident.
The injured were rushed to the Bangarpet
Hospital where they received preliminary treatment.
Among the four deceased, three were
identified as Vikram Paul, ambulance driver; Shivaraj, tempo driver and Ashok,
surveyor.
According to the source, the catering
personnel were on their way back to Bengaluru after a foundation-laying event
in Ithandahalli in Bangarpet taluk, which had ended around 6.00pm.
PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS
Another major accident occurred during March where five people died when the car in which they were travelling collided with a two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.
In May, another accident took place where a media intern was killed when his car crashed onto a divider.
Two other accidents took place during the month of June and July as well.
KGF district police have been taking strict action against speeding vehicles and the entry of two-wheelers have been banned into the expressway. Police have set up surveillance cameras to prevent entry of two-wheelers.

killed after bus runs over devotees in Koppal
Three people were killed and four others
injured after a private sleeper coach bus ran over a group of devotees
participating in a padayatra near Kookanapalli village in Koppal district,
police said on Monday.
The incident took place on National Highway
50 of Koppal district when a private sleeper coach bus going from Sindagi to
Bengaluru lost control and ran over devotees who were on a 3-hour padayatra
(walk) to the Huligemma temple in Huligi village, resulting in the death of
three people and leaving four people seriously injured.
The deceased were identified as Annapurna,
40; Prakash, 25 and Sharanappa, 19, who are from Tarihala village in Rona taluk
of Gadag district.
The injured were immediately shifted to the
Koppal District Hospital for treatment. The
bus driver was arrested, police said.
Superintendent of Police Dr Ram Arasiddi visited the scene of the incident and inspected the site.
